First thing in the morning we were only going one place; out on the footpath for eggs.
Dat had to get something from the Intrepid office so we had an extra half hour before going visiting; then we got a tax over the hospital which turned out to be an International Clinic designed more or less for travellers, with doctors of various nationalities. Turns out Dengue Fever has an incubation period, then a seven day course, the worst day of which is the seventh day. And they had established via various medical result that this was the seventh day.
We’d nominated ourselves as being present if necessary because we were staying in Saigon until Thursday morning, so we could go and get bottles of water or whatever. According to the Australian doctor Sophie could leave today or tomorrow if she wanted.
So we walked ourselves back to the hotel, taking an accidental detour past the Reunification Palace, and basically loafed around for the rest of the day, sending off emails and looking at pictures and wondering why the balcony of our new room (503) was sealed off. There was a door, or there had been, but someone thought better and took the hinges out and more or less glued the door in place.
At 4pm Sophie arrived from the hospital, walking and talking and everything else, and was conveniently put in the room next to us.
We went out for dinner over in Pham Ngu Lao and had something like Shepherd’s Pie and a pretty good Vegetable Lasagne.
And that’s about all there is to tell for Sunday 9th November.
Greg.
