Awesome, busy, and and rewarding day of temple-seeing and noodle-eating and wandering around the markets in the old part of town.
Today we went to the Big Standing Buddha, the Lucky Buddha (yes these have Thai names but we’ve forgotten them), Wat Trihothasep (another temple), and then the big one: The Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha.
The Emerald Buddha is actually made of Jade, but is still magnificent.
Then on the way home Loha Prasat (which has a black roof) and then through the (choke choke cough) traffic and smog to our hotel, where we retreated to the swimming pool.
Words we’ve learned in Thai:
Sa-wat-dee = hello
Korp-kun = thank you
morp-kun mahk = thank you very much
Sa-ba-dee-mai = how are you
Words we are yet to master:
Yes we do want a 20B tuk-tuk ride but no we don’t want it to go the Thai Factory or to the Export Centre because it does seem a bit strange that by showing your passport you can buy up to 3 pieces of jewellery which can be sold in any jewellery store in Europe or Australia, and also No we don’t want to get any suits made although we definitely are 100% sure that once it’s made and ordered and paid for you will post it to the address we give you, and anyway thanks for the roundabout tour of town because now we are starting to learn our way around which was actually what we wanted anyway but thanks so much for approaching us on the street every time we stand still.
