Hello. <\/em>Alice has made it to Paris. <\/em>There was some hubbub in Lyon regarding train stations and the phrase ‘retard indetermine.’ Now I may not speak French – actually I kind of do, but I may not – anyway that is not a good-sounding phrase. <\/em>There was further hubbub at the station in Lyon involving a crazy lady muttering to herself and sweating. <\/em>‘How many cats’, I asked, ‘does she have?’<\/em>‘She must have at least 12’, is the transcontinental reply. ‘I think she is nervous to be away from all the cats.’<\/em>So in other words she doesn’t have the cats with her. <\/em>‘Drink one of the bottles of wine you’re carrying’, I suggest. ‘Then no one will want to sit next to you.’ <\/em>The final hubbub: her bag is rather heavy. Taxi drivers are making a point of looking impressed when their turn to lift the damn thing comes around. <\/em>They look at her – 5’8″, short legs, long neck – they heft the bag into the boot, they look at her again, then they stand agape and grin. <\/em>Or so I assume. I’m not actually in France just now. But that’s the way I heard it on the phone. <\/em>And seeing as Alice has not updated the travel journal, even though she is in France, I figured I had better do it. <\/em>So she’s made it to Paris. <\/em>‘I just clawed my way through the crowd’, says the latest transatlantic SMS – ‘and saw the mona lisa. nice but totally unremarkable. love ali.’ <\/em>‘Yes’, I reply, ‘but you’ve seen it.’ <\/em>‘I think seeing the crowd was a better experience. Very funny. I took a picture. Love ali.’ <\/em>Finally, I’d like to formally (does this count as an affadavit Kristin?) deny any responsibility for the entry below this one, which seems to say ’11th Tuesday, 2007′. Now what can that mean, I wonder? <\/em><\/p>\n
